Lose Your Religion NOT Your Faith
Do you believe in God but not religion?
Do you constantly question the beliefs of your religion, or any and all religions?
Are you searching for God but afraid to admit it to your friends, your family, or even yourself?
Do you want to understand why your son or daughter no longer attends church? Why they have strayed? Lost their faith?
Do you want to explain to your friends and family why you no longer go to church but you have NOT lost your faith?
Do you want to explain why you no longer believe in their religion? Or your childhood religion?
You are NOT alone.
You will not go to hell for asking life’s essential questions. Devout followers of God avoid these questions like a plague. But why? Wouldn’t God want you to question your existence, your purpose and your soul? Doesn’t God want you to question God’s existence and God’s purpose?

Excerpts from Lose Your Religion NOT Your Faith
Introduction
- But no Christian majority? Only 35% of the US Christian in less than half a century? Oh Christ, what is happening here.
- Catholics were a splinter group in the small town of Ranger, Texas. But everyone was Christian, except a few downtrodden, one Jew, an occasional itinerant Mormon, and a few defiant “emo-weirdoes.” The vast majority were God-fearing Protestants, with evangelicals outnumbering the more traditional believers. The rest of us, including Catholics, were considered religious sects, outcasts, pagans or atheists. The born-again disciples of Jesus dominated.
Bali
- The creature towered, dominating the street. It consumed the crowd’s attention promising the defeat of demons. It bounced in menace. Gasps escaped open mouths. Toddlers scrambled behind mother’s knees. It stared blindly through wild, yellow-eyed slits.
- The arms of the brute extended forward leading the attack. The talons of an eagle spread to kill. A goat-bristled face boasted Bowie- knife fangs. A shock of bleach-blonde hair shot to dark skies above. This beast had never been seen before though parts were recognizable from nature and horror shows. The red and black-streaked torso flaunted a six-pack abdomen. Stegosaurus-plated chicken legs descended to a bamboo base. Twelve Indonesians deftly steered the beast on their shoulders, the men identically dressed in black pants, red t-shirts, and udeng, square cloths tied around their heads.
Israel
- “Ok. Then my question is, why is it written so poorly?”
“What?”
“The Bible. If God wrote it, wouldn’t it be one of the best, no, the best piece of literature ever recorded.”
David said, “You need to understand it was written for a different audience. It was written in a different time and had to be understandable to the people in that time.”
“Ok. Fair enough. But then why doesn’t God update it. He’s God and all, that shouldn’t be too hard.”
“How? Do you think the words on every Bible ever printed will be changed. Isn’t that a bit ridiculous?”
And, I admit, I had to stop myself here. He said, “Isn’t that a bit ridiculous?”I thought, “Ridiculous to edit and update the Bible but not consider the incredulity of the Bible stories themselves?” I should not have, but I continued. I said, “If He’s God and all, what you’re saying is that He can create a world in six days … but He can’t change the words of an out-of-date book?”

- But then, in the next chapter, Chapter 2, Verse 7, God forms man from dust. So, what is “humankind” created the week before in Chapter 1? What am I missing? He created humankind, male and female, then later he creates the first man, Adam. What was humankind? I am lost. I am two minutes into the Holy Bible, its flaws already render it useless in any plausible understanding of creation.
- Before the age of scientific reason, “In the beginning” was easier to swallow. I checked Wikipedia; 107 creation myths exist. In comparison to these, the myth in Genesis holds its own. But the educated portion of today’s humanity no longer live where sun and stars resided in a giant dome, or demon-spirits caused migraine headaches.
Kuwait
- “Well, you say you have freedom of religion but you can’t talk about God.”
“Yes, of course you can talk about God.”
“But you can’t challenge the beliefs on God. What I—”
“Ahhhh. What is to question?” His teacup clinked into its saucer.
“Like there are other religions and who’s to say that Islam is—“
He slammed his fist. The dishes rattled. Eyes settled upon us. Upon me.
He said, “Khallas.” He breathed. He said, “Yaani, Andy. You must never question God. This cannot be questioned.”
Jamaica
- “Blessings.” The surprise of a male voice flipped my peaceful heart like a pancake. In darkness, in a strange country, a man stood alone. His head poked from the fronds of a giant palm. He stepped into the light, holding a machete. He was tall, dark and slim. His grey-haired dreadlocks tied in a bun, pointed forward like a gramophone topped his head. Dreadlocks derive directly from the book of Leviticus in the Bible, the longer the dreadlocks, the longer the adherent to ways of Rasta. Here was a lifelong devotee.
